The Cheesecakes that everyone loves are back!   The Mustang Band Boosters are once again selling delicious Gourmet’s Delight cheesecakes, just in time for the holidays.   Samples of most of the offerings will be available outside the Auditorium at the Band Concerts on November 6th & 8th.  (This fundraiser is open to students in any of the DGS Music Programs.)
This year we are offering a variety of cheesecakes in two sizes –
Regular: These large 9” cheesecakes weigh from 3-1/2 to 4 lbs., and are pre-cut into 14 servings – available in 14 varieties.
Mini: These 7” cheesecakes weigh approx. 2-1/4 lbs., and are pre-cut into 6-8 servings – available in 7 varieties.

Tues. October 30th Fall Banquet & Raffle

The Marching Mustangs will hold their Annual Fall Awards Banquet on Tuesday, October 30th in the DGS School Cafeteria. Check-In is at 5.45pm, Dinner at 6:15pm, and Presentation/Awards at 7:30pm. Tickets are $13 per person (advanced reservations). Dinner will include a buffet-style dinner with variety of choices as listed in the reservation form

10th Annual Music Bowl @ Downers Grove South HIgh School

We appreciate the commitment and dedication displayed by all participating bands, parents, families, students, judges, staff and volunteers who contributed to the success of the events despite of the weather.

Penn HS, Mishiwaka Results

The Marching Mustangs travelled to Mishiwaka, IN today to compete at the Kingsmen Carnival of Bands.  The band competed well, but were outplaced by the following bands in their Division:

  1. Homestead, IN (Music, Visual, General Effect)
  2. Snider, IN
  3. Carroll, IN

After packing the trailers, the band expects to arrive back at DGS around 1:00am.  No further updates are anticipated this evening.

CHICAGO JAZZ FESTIVAL

 
The Jazz Ensemble has been selected to perform at the prestigious Chicago Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 2, 2012 from 2:40-3:25 PM at the Young Lions’ Jazz Stage. This performance is “invitation only,” and South HS is one of only a handful of high school groups performing at this internationally acclaimed event. Thanks in advance for your suppport of these student musicians through your event attendance.

Fundraiser @ Buona in Darien on August 29th


Welcome to the 2012-2013 Marching Season. We are announcing our restaurant fundraiser at Buona in Darien, Located @ 7417 South Cass Avenue, on Wednesday, August 29, from 10:30 AM until 10:00 PM.
 
You can eat lunch, dinner or a snack (either dine-in, carry-out, drive-thru, or purchase Buona by-the-pound). Buona will donate 15% to 25% of all sales to the DGS Bands. The more people who participate, the higher percentage DGS Bands will receive, so please bring your family and invite as many friends as possible to eat at Buona on August 29 so we can have a successful fundraiser. 

Your participation in this and all fundraisers is very much appreciated, and the funds generated will benefit each and every band student at DGS. So if you are wondering what to do for dinner the first week of school let Buona Beef do the cooking. Please dine at Buona on Wednesday, August 29.

Recently a new fundraising proposal was received from a hotel operator near the largest manmade lake in Carlyle, IL, offering an opportunity for a quiet retreat from the busy life to include fishing, boating, sailing, bike rides and/or family reunion etc.  There is also a golf course nearby.

Mustang Band families would receive a discounted rate ( ask for rate code mustangb when booking). The hotel will contribute $5 per stay to the mustang band boosters using this rate code.

3rd Annual DGS Band Boosters Golf Outing and Dinner

The 3rd Annual DGS Band Booster Golf Outing will be held on Sunday, August 5th at Twin Lakes Golf Course (9 Holes) in Westmont.

Later that afternoon, after that great golf game, the Boosters are hosting a buffet dinner with a cash bar at Gatto's Restaurant on Main Street in Downers Grove

2012 Show Shirt Design Contest Announced – Entries Due By Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Each year the band t-shirt or “Show Shirt” has a student created design on the front. All students are invited to submit their design for this year’s show, "Some Assembly Required"

The first spirit wear order of the 2012 marching band season is here!
Please download the form above and turn it into the mailbox in the band room. The spirit wear order with payment is due by May 31st. Orders will be distributed during a practice in June - in plenty of time for summer rehearsals and band camp!
** NEW ** this year - Soffe shorts with a marching band logo! The soffe shorts are the regular soffe shorts that are sold in the stores in junior sizes for the girls.
Also new this year - I hope everyone noticed the pink t-shirts. The marching band logo will be in Carolina blue with white outlining. Both the t-shirt and the long sleeve shirts are unisex.

What to wear - All students please make sure to wear black socks with your marching shoes, and a t-shirt and shorts under the uniform.

Music – Memorize “America Fantasy” for the parade, and bring Star Spangled Banner, and Salute to America’s finest.

It is time once again to honor and recognize the hard work and dedication of the members of all the Downers Grove South Mustang Bands and Winter Guard. All DGS concert band, Jazz band, and Winter Guard students and their families are invited to join the event.

We offer excellent quality flowers and vegetables from Nash Greenhouse in Kalamazoo, MI. The plants are gorgeous, the prices are competitive, and delivery is just in time for Mother’s Day!

Buona Fund Raiser


Let’s take the “blues” out of winter and bring on the “beef”! Take a break from cooking by coming to our next restaurant fundraiser at Buona in Darien.

concert on March 5th. Butter Braids are only available once a year, so stock up!

DGS Chamber Music Program 2012

Dear Band Families,

Once again, we will be running our very popular and highly successful chamber music program. The chamber ensembles will be taught by our outstanding private music teachers. I have attached two flyers to this email which detail the program and the opportunities available to our musicians. This is a marvelous opportunity for our band students to truly refine and develop their musical skills under the guidance of outstanding musicians.

Please read through the two attached documents and parents, please encourage your son/daughter to participate in this worthwhile program.

There is no charge to you; the program is funded in its entirety by our Mustang Band Boosters. We ask that the students attend rehearsals on a regular basis and practice their music.
