ISU State of Illinois Marching Band Championships – Oct. 23rd

LIVE ISU UPDATES via TWITTER posted at right ==>
ISU Resumes after 2-1/2 hr Rain Delay

UPDATED SAT. Oct. 23rd:

We are indeed “Beyond The Storm”… The ISU Competition was delayed by rain shortly after the 1A/2A awards were announced.  The Competition has just resumed outdoors at about 1:15PM with Antioch (3A), and is running approx. 2-1/2 hours behind schedule.  Assuming all bands stayed through the rain delay (iffy), this would delay DGS’ performance until around 8:00PM.

LIVE ISU UPDATES via TWITTER posted at right ==>

Our updates from DGSMBB, and those from ILMarching.com, will be posted live on the Twitter feed to the right.  Please look there for updated info regarding the schedule, results, and our band’s return to DGS.  To follow this information on your cell phone, text “FOLLOW dgsmbb” and “FOLLOW ilmarching” to 40404.

Marching Rehearsal Change – Wed., Oct 20th

Attention Marching Mustangs,

To cap off the rehearsals for our truly remarkable season, we have been able to secure the Benedictine University Turf Stadium for a rehearsal this week.  The only catch is that it is available on Wednesday, Oct 20.  So we have made the following switch in our schedule this week:

Thursday, Oct 21 Rehearsal 6-9 pm – CANCELLED

Wednesday, Oct 20 – Rehearsal from 6 – 9:30 pm  - ADDED

Our rehearsal will begin at DGS at 6 pm.  We will carpool over to Benedictine University and use the band trailer and Van #1 for pit equipment and large drums.

Benedictine stadium is located at the corner of Maple Ave (55th St) and Yackley Rd. in Lisle.  Students and parents are encourage to park behind the stadium in the South Parking lot which is located off of an access road that is west of Yackley, by turning left off of Maple.

Parents are encouraged to come support the band and view the last hour of rehearsal from 8:30 – 9:30 pm in the stands.  You can then bring your students home from the Benedictine Stadium.

Thanks for making this switch possible.  Your flexibility is greatly appreciated as we all want the best possible experience for our marching band students this week in the final push to ISU.  Having Thursday night free also gives students the night before the end of the quarter to complete all assignments and homework.  We will still rehearse on Friday, Oct 22 from 4-7 pm at DGS.

Thanks again,

Mr. Roselieb

Boosters Help With Kiwanis Peanut Drive September 23rd – 25th, Raise $4,000+

image

image

Thanks to the volunteers who shared their time, good nature, and shoe leather, the Mustang Band Boosters raised over $4,000 for the Downers Grove Kiwanis in this year’s Annual Peanut Days drive.  With your help, the Downers Grove Kiwanis can continue to support its many charitable activities in our community. If you want to know more about the good results that will come from your hard work, please click the following link for a brief list of DG Kiwanis' charitable efforts: http://www.dgkiwanis.org/soap.html

While this was a successful drive from many respects, we collected far less than we could have since fully 1/2 of the 198 volunteer slots went unfilled.  (36 volunteers accounted for 99 hours of time collecting donations.)

Kiwanis Peanut Days 2011 will once again be held on the last full weekend of September (9/22-9/24). If you are still involved with the DGS Bands next year, or continue to have a soft spot in your heart for the bands, please plan on walking the streets with us once again. And please encourage your friends to join you as well. It is, at a minimum, only an hour or two of your time.

School’s started, the days are a bit cooler, and the Marching Band Season has begun.  But what do Boosters do when there’s no Competition? It must be time for Kiwanis Peanut Days!

The year’s Annual Kiwanis Peanut Drive is being held from Thursday Sept. 23rd – Saturday Sept. 25th.  The Downers Grove Kiwanis raises funds throughout the year to support our local school programs and fulfill many local charitable needs.  Over the past 3 years, the Mustang Band Boosters have helped by collecting over $10,000 as Peanut Day volunteers.

Music Bowl Program Ad Sales Info

Contact Info:  Program Ad Chairperson -- Bonny Moore
email:  Bowl-Program@MustangBandBoosters.com
It’s time to... AD TO THE STORM!

Help us fill the Program Book for the 2010 Music Bowl! Anyone can participate. You do not need to be a Marching Band member.  Students that sell ads for the Music Bowl Program Book receive 10% of the ad’s value back to their band account. These earnings can be used for band expenses.

Here's what to do:
  1. Download and print the Music Bowl Merchant Letter and Music Bowl Program Ad Form.
    • Forms can also be found at the bottom of the Music Bowl Home Page at http://www.dgsmusicbowl.com/, and are also available on the Communication Table in the Band Room.
  2. Give the Letter and Ad Form to your favorite merchants and see if they would like to support the Marching Mustangs by taking out an ad space in the Music Bowl Program Book.
    • If they say “YES”, ask them if they would like you to wait while they fill out the form or if you should come back. They also have the option of mailing all of the information to the address on the Ad Form.
    • If they say they would like to think about it, leave the form with them and tell them that you will check back with them in about a week.
    • If they decline to take out an ad, thank them for looking at the form.
All the information that the merchants need is on the ad form along with contact information should they have any questions. Ads are available in the following sizes: Full Page - $250.00, 1/2 page - $150.00, 1/4 page - $75.00 and 1/8 page (business card size) $40.00.

Let me know the businesses that you have contacted, so we avoid asking the same business multiple times. We don’t want to discourage merchants because multiple people are contacting them about the same ads. I will post the business names that have been contacted on a poster in the band room and will also send out emails with this information. Download the latest List of Contacted Business here (as of 9/03/10).

For every ad sold, we’ll add another lightning bolt to the poster located in the band hallway. Let’s build a storm!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Program Ad Chairperson, Bonny Moore, by phone at (630)963-7258 or by email at Bowl-Program@MustangBandBoosters.com
